Breakfast of champions and Bangarra Dance-Belonging to Aussie culture

Day 3 of Sydney trek..Brekkie with friends at the lodge, scrambled eggs, oj and coffee over "Spectrum" magazine to map out day's romp. Right, now prepared for battle, pack up car and go..oops, forgot to book online for Bangarra Dance at the Big House, Had to check if my portrait was on the wall of housemates at the Opera House. Deviation to Paddington to visit Roslyn Oxley- Del Kathryn Barton's beautiful, surrealistic, tattooed feminine personas. What an exquisite siting for a gallery. The leafy figs with exposed aerial roots creating shade and coolness, the sandstone facade and narrow laneway, oozing of the historic era of The Rocks' fame,  a well worn track to the Stage of elite of the Australia artworld. But where's the cafe ? No cappuccino and brioche ?
Then the newly appointed Martin Browne Contemporary gallery just down the road. Architecture of a later era, typically industrial style, the gallery is an excellent space for large works, landscapes perhaps, which is where I saw Neil Frazer's "fracture" paintings of Katherine Gorge, simply stunning, his depiction of reflection and capture of light , one place I haven't been whilst inland Northern Territory.

Next stop was the Arthouse gallery at Rushcutter's Bay to see works from Joshua Yeldham, Gary Shead, and a host of other smaller works of mixed media, prints, drawings, Melbourne mish mash etc.etc.Well time to find parking, then it's off to the dance. Spectacular weather for a stroll around the house in the sunshine. Almost hated to go indoors. The show was nothing short of magnificent. Skin colour and identity were the themes, blues and ochres , lithe costuming and fantastic grounded, angular, organic and spiritual dance moves. the music was so engaging and hypnotic that I had to purchase the CD. The music will imprint the images to my memory. Oh so happy to have made this my epilogue to my trip. Thank you Sydney, I think I enjoyed myself.

Sydney Modernism/Postmodernism Safari

Decided "off the back" to trek to Sydney for an adventure. Booked a room at a lodge in Kirribilli,at this safe address you are not likely to meet riff raff on the stairs. Night 1, went out to dinner with my 2 kids, Damian and Naima and Damian's partner Jill, the massage therapist. Dam has a new shiney, black BMW. We dined at Safi's Lebanese cuisine in North Sydey and caught up with family stuff, it was so nice, I miss them, but their lives are filled as is mine so these events are great. Next day, set off to NSW Gallery to view Pre Raphelite Drawings,  Japanese theatre panels, photographs and watercolour paintings of Bento Dance and eroticism, a jazz music/painting modernistic artist called David Aspendil,  and new floor exhibit devoted to modernism and Post Modernism. what a buzz, all the uni work I,ve chosen this year is documented here in a  grand scale. So enjoyed my time at all exhibits-culminated everything I've researched. Gave Margaret Olley a few respected moments of my time viewing 6 of her works. She did have a talent for blending colour in her still lifes. Next stop, parker's Fine Art ,no parking due to Market day at the Rocks so stole 10 minute park from vendors' parking to purchase"Colombe" paper, black pastel paper and non toxic fixative. Will definitely be back, maybe tomorrow. Went down to Kirribilli shops to get lunch, buy a shirt  to wear and spectcles' case with peacock feathers. Then down to harbousid with my camera for some great afternoon shots of shadows and western light on the water. Found the Ensemble theatre, great shot, and a pink Vespa backdropped by an avenue of overhanging peppermint gums in the late afternoon sunlight. Found a hangman's noose hanging from a fig tree, a couple of dated punts and some terrific edificed skyline shots. Feet and body weary and sore I headed home to photograph Glenferrie Loge where I'm staying. Seriously, how do I pick these places, check out the statue in the front of the building ! How bizarre, a Scottish name with an RedIndian carrying a moose.
What's on the agenda for tomorrow....

Life Drawing at Shellcove

Since this is my main activity in the art world aside from my online Uni course in Visual Expression,I need to establish my competence in drawing and my model perception. We have had some young newbies begin a promising career as nudists and hopefully the experience will give them much needed confidence and self esteem to wear it well. The group has been working in in and watercolour as well as coloured pencils and graphite. On Wednesday I began using pastels, oil sticks and pastel sheets. Here are some of the results
